We’ve already given our winning chocolate and wine combinations, so this time, we thought we’d pair you with your dessert cocktail soulmate based on what type of chocolate you normally gravitate to in the supermarket aisles. Jarrod’s already given us the perfect martini recipe for all the Creme Egg lovers out there, but what other dessert cocktails should you try? Let’s find out!
This boozy and sweet, 1970s era cocktail is for all the lovers of the (sometimes divisive) chocolate and mint combination. In a classic Grasshopper cocktail recipe, Crème De Cacao and Crème De Menthe are blitzed or shaken with vanilla ice cream for a decadent and creamy cocktail that refreshes your palette with minty goodness. Originating from America’s cocktail capital of New Orleans, much like 70s fashion, the Grasshopper is making a comeback! At your next dinner party, instead of serving after-dinner mints, shake up a round of Grasshoppers instead.
The yellow, triangular packaging of Toblerone is as iconic as the swiss chocolate itself and now the Toblerone cocktail has collected a cult following after it was first created in 2003. The cocktail pays homage to the widely loved honey-nougat-hazelnut combination of the famous chocolate bar. Frangelico brings notes of hazelnut, while Kahlua adds coffee, and Baileys Irish Cream gives the cocktail its rich and creamy cocoa taste. A dash of fresh honey is added for good measure and with a strawberry or two on top to garnish, you’re on your way to an indulgent cocktail that doubles up as a dessert.
Not so much a cocktail as a boozy adult milkshake, the Mudslide is for all the coffee and chocolate lovers out there. Vodka and coffee liqueur cut through the addition of Baileys Irish Cream and heavy cream, creating a boozy and thick milkshake-like concoction. If you love espresso martinis but want to shake up your cocktails every now and again, the Mudslide is for you!
Now chocolate and aniseed isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but those who love it, really love it. The Golden Cadillac is a simple but decadent cocktail that was first created in California all the way back in the 1950s. As the story goes, a newly engaged couple came into a bar in the gold rush town of El Dorado in California, requesting that a special cocktail be made to mark the happy occasion. The Golden Cadillac was then born, named after the couple’s golden Cadillac car parked out the front of the bar. Galliano gives the cocktail its herbaceous star anise meets vanilla flavour, while white crème de cacao brings a velvety smooth cocoa taste.
